The Grand Krewe of Ennead is one of ten “Grand Krewes” affiliated with the Carnival Memphis organization (formerly Cotton Carnival). Each Krewe is an autonomous organization which has its own membership, board of directors, and royal court. Ennead is the largest Krewe which generally boasts a membership of 100+ members. Its members are active in Carnival events during Carnival Season as well as their own activities and events throughout the year.
The Grand Krewe of Ennead was founded in 1990 and patterned after the “secret” societies of the original Cotton Carnival, which became Carnival Memphis during the 1990s. The Ennead by-laws require members to be over the age of 30 and legally single whether never married, divorced or widowed. Its membership is kept in balance with an approximately equal number of male and female members.
Ennead provides a great conduit for members to interact with other singles at our events as well as members of other Krewes within Carnival Memphis.
Ennead (E nod), n: The Council of Nine; the governing body or city council in the majority of cities and towns in ancient Egypt. The council governed both the ecclesiastic and lay life of the citizens. The ancient Egyptians considered the number 3 and its multiples to be mystical.
