Ennead’s Monthly Newsletter
June 2018 Edition
: LaMora Simpson

From your Chairman

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Ennead’s Annual Meeting,
August 4 at Halle Plantation! The meeting at 5:30 is for members only, featuring election of the new Board, but guests are welcome after
the meeting for barbeque and music by Eddie Harrison and
Debbie Jamison. It will be a great opportunity for
fellowship and fun as well as information sharing.
May marked the end of spring and we have moved quickly from showers and
abundant azaleas to pop-up thunderstorms and high humidity. The first Saturday
of the month began in the morning with Phoenix Games, and your krewe was
well represented wearing Ennead’s distinctive purple. Michael Lanthier
contributed his talents to your Royal Krewe and Camilla Wilson came to cheer
us on. Rain was not a factor and a good time was had by all.
Then came Ennead’s annual Kentucky Derby Party! Hosted by Paola High, we
were a festive group to be sure. I hope you have seen pictures of our ladies in
their fancy hats and our gentlemen in their best southern finery. LaMora
Simpson and Michael Lanthier won the prizes for being best dressed…and fans
of Justified walked away with a little extra money in their pockets. Perhaps a
Triple Crown winner this year?
Janet Dodson hosted May’s wine party and Bahama Breeze was the location for
Happy Hour this month. The Ladies enjoyed dinner and conversation at Babalu
while the Dinner Group traveled to Cordova to sample the fare at G. Alston.
Poker players enjoyed Patti Oliver’s hospitality, Rummikub enthusiasts
gathered at Marty Alberg’s, and Book Club faithfuls met at the home of Peggy
Edwards. Be sure to check the events calendar on our website each month
(ennead.info) to be sure you don’t miss anything!
June brings Carnival Week which begins with Crown and Sceptre on June 1.
Our Clubroom is Wednesday, June 6 at the Botanic Gardens, held jointly with
Luxor, Ptah, and Sphinx. Carnival Royalty will be honored and the Boll
Weevils will bring their mischief. This year, the “Hump Day Camel” that has
become our Clubroom’s mascot is visiting the Memphis Zoo and the dress is
“Safari Cocktail,” so get creative with animal prints and pith helmets to
complement your cocktail attire! Remember that, although the guest fee for this
party is $50, your admission is covered by your annual dues. Just check in with
David Brockmann and his team at the registration desk to get your wristband.

Our Nominating Committee is hard at work identifying and contacting strong
candidates for service on the Ennead Board. If called, please consider giving
back to the krewe that gives so much to us. Many hands make light work!
Print directories are available – one per member – I have them with me at most
Ennead events. Be sure to find me so you can get yours!
Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful summer.
