Ennead’s Monthly Newsletter
September 2017 Edition
: Peggy Fitzgerald

August is always an exciting month for Ennead, marked by changes in leadership and new opportunities for service. We began the month with our annual meeting and election of six new Board members: Connie Spencer, Teresa Turman, Carol Wasielewski, David Brockmann, Don Davis, and Randy West. Many thanks to departing members Paola High, LaMora Simpson, Pat McWilliams, Jim Frommel, John Goodyear, and Chair Richard Raichelson.

We are so fortunate that John Goodyear has agreed to continue scheduling the monthly activities we call “small groups,” where many of us forge our strongest friendships within Ennead. John has been busy finding new organizers for several of these groups: Gaynette Price has taken over responsibility for the Wine Parties (and glasses!) from Liza Monaghan; Janet Dodson has returned to the role of Happy Hour Host, replacing Jim Sharpe; Bill McMurtray will organize our cultural arts outings; and Camilla Wilson will keep us dancing this year.

Jere Gerard is our new Sunshine Chair this year, replacing Lucy Ridley, so be sure to let her know of members who are ill or grieving. The cards we send show we care for and support each other.
Ennead’s regular monthly events in August kept us busy, beginning with Jo Vail hosting Rummikub, which attracts more players every month. Book Club faithfuls gathered at Peggy Edwards’ home for discussion of Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann, and the Dinner Group enjoyed the fare at Café 1912. There was a good turnout for Happy Hour at Owen Brennan’s. Dottie Crihfield hosted Poker Night this month, and the ladies dodged showers at Marty Alberg’s pool one Sunday afternoon. We thank Karen Mora for hosting the August wine party at her beautiful home, where we enjoyed watching the sun set behind the lake.

Yvonne Fournier chose The Glass Castle for movie night, which ties in perfectly with the Book Club’s September selection of Jeannette Walls’ autobiography on which the movie was based. If you enjoyed the movie, there is still time to read the book and join what will surely be a lively exchange.
I appreciate the opportunity to serve Ennead as Chair this year. We have a strong and committed Board, and we look forward to a wonderful year of “Partying with a Purpose!”

Joe Pierpoali Award

The Joe Pierpoali Black Tie and Tennis Shoe Award is awarded each year during the Annual Business Meeting in August. It is named for a favorite and much loved former member of Ennead who was considered the most dedicated BTTS skit participant ever! In his honor the award was created. A member can win only one time.

The Events Calendar on the Ennead website has a new, cleaner look and works in a similar way as the previous one.  The default view is LIST (as seen below). To see pop-out details , click on Find Out More.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  It takes a lot of people to make Events happen.  Some people host an event at their home while others prefer to help with decorating, work the registration desk, assist in setup and/or cleanup for larger events such as the Halloween Party, Christmas Gala or Coronation. All hands are needed to make Ennead events successful! If you would like to host an event at your home, contact John Goodyear, Small Groups Coordinator.  If you prefer to help with the larger events, contact Connie Spencer, Entertainment Chairman.
